REVIEW OF THE CLASSIC CHRIS TRAVIS TAPE "PIZZA AND CODEINE"

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

This project is a classic tape for the underground and was released around the time when Raider Klan was in its height. The fun energy of this project as opposed to dark phonk is interesting in many ways. I love to see that this track has been sampled by new acts in the phonk scene such as Baker Ya Maker sampling the track "For the love of $" on "Fire In my gin" with Soulzay.

"How It Is" is a track that is a banger in the early part of the album and top to bottom there is no misses on this project. It was easy to get through compared to the new projects released by Chris. The jazzy, smooth, and spacey samples are amazing. The cowbells and triangles are used well in this project. This project is further proof of Seshollowaterboyz and Raider Klans influence on the game with many later phonk acts using this sound.

The best sampling comes from these 3 tracks, "Psychedelic Funk", "When We Ride", and "Miss me when I'm gone". The best track off the project is "Miss me when I'm gone". This track samples the taxi driver theme which is an amazing sax sample trap track which is also the most emotional.

I would rate this tape 9.5/10 and It has been on repeat all day.
